Was sold a write off
I was sold a written off Civic by a dealership in Ottawa that specializes in new and used vehicles.
I've been having issues with said vehicle and was told by Midas to check the warranties because I may be eligible for some repairs at no cost.
They got back to me and said that I'm ineligible for warranty because the vehicle was totaled. I've had the vehicle for ~4 years and haven't had any major issues until the last few weeks.
I was told to file a claim with OMVIC, but I'm worried that nothing will come of it because this dealership clearly has a thing for fudging their records.
If the dealership claims the vehicle is a "rebuild" despite the fact that the VIN came back as a totaled vehicle, what sort of legal recourse is there?
Edit: THANK YOU EVERYONE! I appreciate the insight and concerns in such a short amount of time. I will be moving forward with OMVIC and am already in contact with the dealership in question as well as with ServiceOntario.
The VIN was not updated, the dealership has confirmed, and that the bozo who sold it to me failed to disclose the fact that the vehicle was totaled on paper and verbally. In other words, they lied and forged papers. Maybe you'll see me on the news in the near future if everything goes well.
