Switching from Java Developer to Python Generative AI: Is it a good decision?

I have six years of experience in Java development. For the last three years, however, I have pivoted toward working with Python, GCP, Dataflow, and Generative AI. My current project initially focused on Java, but the workload has gradually shifted toward GCP and Python FastAPI, and I have transitioned along with it.
As I look to switch organizations, I am debating whether I should interview for Python AI Engineer roles or Java Development with GenAI roles.
I am leaning toward upgrading my career path and rebranding as a Python AI Engineer, but I have a few concerns:
• What kind of interview questions should I expect for this role?
• Is switching from Java development to Python a correct career move in the current market?

Switching from Java Developer to Python Generative AI is good decision?

I have java development experience of 6years. In which from last 3 years I have been mostly working on Python, GCP, Dataflow, generative AI etc. Initially in my project we have java development work then the work is shifted slowly to gcp and python fast api. I also started working on that.

For now to switch another organisation shall I give interviews as a python AI Engineer or java development with Genai.

I am thinking to upgrade myself and start with python AI engineer. but I have concerns about what questions will be asked ?
Is my decision is correct to switch to python from Java development.

That’s how I waste my day by doing WFO

• **The Commute:** Spend an hour traveling through 36°C heat, soul-crushing traffic, dust, and potholes.
• **The Hunt:** Spend even more time just circling for a bike parking spot.
• **The "Why?":** Swipe in, open my laptop, and do the exact same work I do at home. None of my team members are even at this location. I’m an introvert sitting in a sea of strangers.
• **The Distraction:** Try to concentrate while senior managers shout on calls like they’re in their living rooms.
• **The Buzzword:** From their loud conversations, I only gather one thing: "AI." I’m not sure they even understand it, but they sure love saying it loudly and often.
• **The Slump:** Eat lunch alone, then battle the afternoon food coma while staring at a screen in a noisy office.
• **The Repeat:** Spend another hour fighting traffic to get back home.
• **The Irony:** Get some rest, then finally start working again. This is when my actual productive time begins.

**TL;DR:** 2+ hours of commuting and a day of office noise just to do the same work I’d be more productive doing at home.
