My boyfriend will occasionally make jokes about my appearance. My boob size, certain things I’ve worn, and that I wear glasses. It’s rare but it pops up and is always veiled as a joke when we’re teasing each other about other things, but i have and would never tease him about his appearance. I’ve not helped myself because for a while I joked along with him (I’ve had a self-deprecating sense of humour for years) and I think I was a bit in denial that it was hurtful because I didn’t want to think of him that way. I started writing this out to ask if there’s any way this can be excused and be seen as anything other than negging. but as I’ve been writing this, I realise how it sounds and I’m struggling to justify it. If there’s any men reading this that do the same to their partners, why do you do it? And to everyone else, how do I address it? I will note that there was one time he was joking about my nose, and the next day I told him it really upset me and he’s never joked about that specifically again.
