Pages on iPad Pro, massive lag when editing mid-paragraph?

Ever since I got an iPad, I moved a lot of raw word typing work to Pages, mainly because the iPad version supports but does not allow the creation of inherited styles (which I think is a good thing for simple typesetting needs), making it reach a middle ground between control and ease of use.

However, after updating to iPadOS 26, I noticed that the typing experience has dropped massively.

Right now, I am working on a document that has 20 pages, approximately 20k words in total. Whenever I edit some wording in the middle of a paragraph, the time between the end of my typing and when the input method fully processes it can have a 0.5-second gap.

I assure you this has nothing to do with document length cause I worked on 300-page figure rich documentations pre-iPadOS26, and it has none of this lag. 20K words is like the most light workload imaginable.

This lag also makes it insufferable to use input methods that allow you to choose words with number selection (for many languages this means all input methods, and yes, the lag itself persist in an English-only document). Say I choose the first word by typing 1; in other applications, the input method can always immediately choose the first word candidate, while in Pages, due to the lag, it fails to process it and puts a 1 next to my existing word.

This lag basically renders the typing experience intolerable and drastically reduces the need to use Pages. I mean, for "real" typesetting work, I would just fire up InDesign and go from there. I often prepare my raw text in Word or Pages since the style metadata makes life in InDesign and Affinity much easier. But now, since typing in Pages is apparently not working, I have had to use Word.

Info: I am using the M2 iPad Pro. This cannot be a performance issue, right?

Anyway, dose anyone experience the same thing? If it is a just-me issue, I might find the culprit eventually.
