During Trump's first assassination attempt in 2024, the news made national headlines and people all over my social media were reposting the picture of Trump with his fist in the air after getting shot. Trump was frequently treated as a martyr and so many people tried to use the event as evidence that leftists and liberals are "dangerous" and "crazy". Whether we want to admit it or not, the first assassination attempt was a huge event and I think it's one of the many reasons that lead to Trump winning in 2024.
When the latest assassination attempt happened just a couple of days ago, I was really worried that it would have been a repeat of what happened in 2024. I totally expected this to be an event that people wouldn't shut up about and I was totally preparing for Republicans and conservatives to be as annoying as possible about it. And with the midterms coming up, I was extremely worried MAGA would use this event as fuel to energize them for the midterms. But weirdly enough, I feel like nobody has been really talking about it? Like it happened, and it feels like almost the whole country collectively reacted with the "oh no! anyway..." gif. And most people who have been talking about it are accusing the attempt of being fake. It feels like this event has been met with the exact opposite reaction that the last attempt had and that makes me extremely optimistic because I see it as proof that Trump is no longer as popular as he once was. Trump's popularity is so low that most Americans generally don't even care that he was nearly assassinated. And while I'm not personally going to entertain the conspiracy theories that this attempt was fake, I think the reactions I've been seeing are a result of growing distrust with this administration as a whole. Donald Trump has lost any and all trust with the American people to the point that people don't even believe this assassination attempt was real.
I take this as yet another sign that the tides are quickly changing in our favor and even this latest "assassination attempt" won't be enough to save Trump and MAGA in the midterms
