Mum in residential care – need to sell her home

I have LPA for my mother. She is now in full-time residential care.

In the next few months, her home will be included in her financial assessment for care cost liability. This has been confirmed to us.

This means the house will need to be sold at some point soon.

Before that happens, the house will be empty.

I have some questions…

  1. Is there any reason why someone in the family couldn’t move into the house now full-time to look after it?
  2. And if they did, would all the related bills need to be switched into their name? Or could they remain in my mum’s name?
  3. Would it then be acceptable for them to buy the house when it is time for it to be sold? This is something they might consider if they are comfortable in their temporary stay.

They would buy the house at an honest value (ie – we would NOT be selling it at an artificially low price to reduce mum’s financial assets).

Any insights would be appreciated.

TIA.
