Too Many Hamsters
Hello Reno ~ Sorry for the long post. I want to hit all the points right off the bat. I really, really didnt want to have to post this on here, but I'm quickly getting to the end of the list of resources.
About 6 months ago we bought a trio of hamster sisters from a local pet store (I wont throw them under the bus here) who said they can live happily together because they are same gender/same litter. In hindsight, this was never true.
Well, we quickly noticed one sister had a "lumpy butt" which actually meant a boy duped the pet store and had infiltrated our "sisters." We separated the boy but it was too late. One girl had 8 babies and the other had 6. (Yes, that's now 17 hamsters in total!)
We've managed to keep these little buggars happy & healthy all this time but now they're getting to the age where the ones in shared cages dont enjoy each other's company. I can not handle any more cages (space and cleaning) and would really love for these cutie-pies to go to good loving homes. They are social & well tempered, no biting and can be held. We are in Cold Springs.
Petco's website says they do take hamsters to be re-homed, but northtowne and meadowood are at capacity and Sparks said they don't take in "contaminated" animals. SPCA said they only take dogs & cats, left a message for Pawsibilities in Washoe, and the Nevada Humane Society, and haven't received a call back from either. Also posted on rescue me! I don't have a fb account.
Any suggestions for rescues I may have missed?
Anyone interested in a hamster? I do not want them to become snake food, etc so I would like to request a donation to rescue me! before turning over any animals.
Also, I dont want to put my phone number on here but I did make an email for this specifically: coldspringshamsters @ yahoo dot com and will check it often.
I appreciate any help anyone can offer!
