"Ongoing Revelation" is Just A Flimsy Excuse to Change The Doctrine
The idea of Ongoing Revelation is a cop out to justify changing the doctrine or policy whenever it becomes inconvenient.
In the past, the big sell was that JS restored the true gospel. FULL STOP. No need to keep making change after change after change. Supposedly, the temple ceremony was a revelation in JS's time and was never to be changed. That's a big laugh.
We all get a planet, big laugh.
Polygamy is required for exaltation, big laugh.
Etc, etc, etc.
Whenever a doctrine becomes socially unacceptable, a change is made..... New sleeveless garments, women as Sunday School Presidents, wearing a cross, Holy Week, I could go on and on but we've all witnessed it in real time for the last 20 years.
This is the same as any other church. Churches change with the times. A big talking point used to be that the MFMC has all the eternal truths and doctrine doesn't change with every whim or bend to social norms.
That fact that we are now supposed to embrace 'Ongoing Revelation' is a contradiction to what we were taught pre-2000. But hey, now it's a feature. No irony here.
