genuine question: does knowing the words mean you're part of the culture?

hey everyone! i'm a senior in college finishing up my degree and i'm doing research on drag/ballroom slang and language - specifically how reality TV like RPDR shapes what it means to be "fluent" in a constantly evolving slang lexicon, and whether using that language makes someone part of the speech community it came from.

does knowing and using words that come from ballroom/drag culture/lgbtqia+ communities mean you are a part of the community? would love to know your thoughts below!

genuine question: does knowing the words mean you're part of the culture and community?

hi all! as i'm wrapping up my senior year i'm working on a research project exploring how reality TV (specifically RuPaul's Drag Race) shapes language and whether using words that come from ballroom and drag culture means you are part of that community.

if you have 5 minutes i would really appreciate you filling out my survey or sharing any of your thoughts below!

hey came across this project called TTRPGrimoire recently and it got me thinking

it's an anthology where each game is built around a myth from a different culture, but what got me was that each game uses a different system, chosen specifically because something about it reflects the emotional core of that myth. there's even a designer note in each one unpacking why they picked it

do you guys think about system selection that way? like does the system shape the experience as much as the fiction does, or do you mostly pick what you know and build around it

curious what the workflow looks like for people here.
