What free keyword research tools are you using besides Ubersuggest/KWFinder?

Hey everyone,

I’m working on a small content-based website and currently doing keyword research for new pages.

I tried using tools like Ubersuggest and KWFinder, but the free limits get over quickly, and sometimes long-tail keywords show no useful data.

Right now, I’m mainly looking for free keyword research tools or free workflows that can help with finding useful content ideas.

I’m not looking for shortcuts or spammy SEO tactics — just trying to discover low/medium competition keywords with clear search intent.

At the moment, I’m mostly relying on manual search research and checking Google results to understand what people are searching for and what kind of content is ranking.

Curious what others are using for keyword research, especially for newer sites with low authority.

Are there any free tools or free methods you recommend for finding:

  • long-tail keywords
  • comparison keywords
  • low-competition topics
  • content ideas from real user searches

Would love to know what has actually worked for you.

I’m building a task-based AI tool finder — looking for feedback

Hey everyone,

I’m building a small site called TechSuggestions to help people choose AI tools based on what they actually want to do.

Instead of another generic “Top 10 AI tools” list, the idea is more like:

  • want to make a presentation → get the right AI presentation tool
  • want to write an assignment → get a writing/study tool
  • want to summarize notes → get a note summarizer
  • confused between two tools → get a simple comparison

Right now I’m starting with AI tools for presentations, students, writing, and notes.

The goal is to make recommendations more practical and task-based, not just list every popular AI tool.

I’d love honest and harsh feedback on whether this direction feels useful and what categories/tools I should add next.

I’ve been working on a small AI tool recommendation site for the last few weeks.

Initially, my thinking was simple:

>

But after looking at early analytics and feedback, I’m realizing the harder part is not just creating content. It’s making the site instantly clear and focused enough that users actually understand why it exists.

The site started as a general “AI tools recommendation” idea, but that feels too broad. I’m now narrowing it toward task-based recommendations, especially around things like:

  • AI tools for presentations
  • Gamma vs Canva
  • AI tools for assignments
  • AI tools for students
  • AI tools for summarizing notes

The main shift I’m trying to make is from:

>

to:

>

My current plan is to publish one focused page daily for the next month, but not as random content. I’m trying to build clusters where each page links naturally to the others.

For example:

Best AI presentation tools → Gamma vs Canva → Gamma vs PowerPoint → AI presentation tools for students

I’m also trying to avoid shortcuts like spammy backlinks or low-quality AI-generated pages.

Curious how others would approach this:

For a new site with very low authority, would you focus more on:

  1. Comparison pages
  2. Long-tail task-based pages
  3. Homepage clarity/conversion
  4. External mentions from communities
  5. Building fewer but much deeper pages

Would love to hear what you’d prioritize first.

Hey everyone,

I’m working on a small project that helps people choose the right AI tool based on what they actually want to do.

The idea is not to make another “Top 10 AI tools” blog. I’m trying to build more of a task-based recommendation site, where someone can say:

  • I want to make a presentation
  • I want to write an assignment
  • I want to summarize notes
  • I want to compare two tools

…and then get a clear recommendation instead of reading through a long list.

Right now, I have a basic site live with one main page around AI presentation tools. I’ve also added analytics, and the early signal is that people are visiting, but many are leaving quickly.

So I’m trying to figure out what to improve first from an SEO + UX perspective.

The things I’m currently thinking about are:

  1. Making the homepage clearer and more task-focused
  2. Creating comparison pages like “Gamma vs Canva”
  3. Improving internal linking between pages
  4. Making the content more decision-based instead of list-based
  5. Figuring out what kind of pages are actually worth targeting first

I’d love honest feedback from people here:

What would you prioritize first for a site like this?

Homepage clarity?
Keyword research?
Comparison pages?
Internal linking?
Programmatic pages?
Something else?

I’m still early, so I’m not trying to sell anything. Just trying to understand how to make the site more useful and SEO-friendly before creating too much content in the wrong direction.

Happy to share the link in the comments if that’s allowed.

Hey,

I’ve been trying a bunch of AI tools for studying, writing assignments, etc., so I put together a simple site:

https://tech-suggestions.vercel.app/

It just lists useful tools (ChatGPT, Grammarly, Canva, Notion, etc.) with quick pros/cons and when to use them.

Still very early, so would love honest feedback:

  • Is this actually useful?
  • What tools am I missing?
  • Anything confusing?

Not promoting — just trying to improve it.

Thanks 🙏
