Photos 1 and 2 are my bellinia orchid.
Photos 3 and 4 are of my Mark orchid.
Photos 5 and 6 are of my big white standard orchid.
And relax about the lighting. I took these photos early in the morning, before their timed led full spectrum lighting came on. And before the sun was fully up. I was watering them this morning. 🙂👍❤️ And pardon the roots showing more than they ought to on some of the orchids. I have not fully perfected potting yet. But I am getting better at it.
I purchased the Polushkabunny Knitted Dragon pattern by Maria Ermolova. She recommends using a 10 ply wool yarn for the pattern (Cascade 200 or Drops Lima). She recommends 100g 200m long. She recommends using 3mm needles when you knit flat with the pattern. The gauge is supposed to be around 20 stitches x 24 rows in 3.9 inches x 3.9 inches. But she says if it is a bit different the gauge is not crucial. The pattern is supposed to be 7.8 inches tall when done.
The only problems are I am allergic to wool, and only have a 4 ply, medium weight, mercerized cotton yarn. I have 3 skeins of it at 100g (3.5 oz) by 170 m (186 y) each. They are all 100 % cotton. They are all Lion Brand 24/7 yarn. I knit small and tight. I can use larger or smaller needles to knit this pattern flat if needed. The gauge I am not exactly picky about. But I would like to know what gauge I need for this pattern with the yarn I have. I asked Maria if I could use the yarn I have and she said as long as the size does not matter to me it should work. I am not picky about needle size. And finished size of the pattern is not all that important to me. As long as it looks like a dragon stuffy I do not mind if it is smaller or bigger than the pattern says. And I have different sizes of needles to knit with, if needed. This pattern also includes instructions for knitting in the round instead of flat if you want to. But I do not really like that way of knitting so much. So I am just using the knitting flat directions for this pattern. I am used to knitting flat and have all the tools I need for that. If you want to make the pattern yourself it is intermediate level. It can be found on the Polushkabunny site, ravelry, lovecraft, and Etsy. My questions though are this:
Q. What gauge do I need for the yarn I am planning to use for this project? Is the same gauge Maria uses for her yarn sufficient? Or does my yarn need a different gauge?
