Hello everyone, I have a question for the group.
In 2025, acting as a European investor, I purchased shares of ET through IBKR. However, I held them for only two days, as I was uncomfortable with the complexities surrounding the taxation of dividends frim ET as european and related issues; consequently, I sold all the shares after just two days at a slight loss. No dividends were paid out during this period.
I have now received a letter from IBKR containing a detailed breakdown regarding this stock—presumably because I held it in 2025, even if only for a few days and at a loss. Ultimately, every single field in the document shows a zero [besides the bought/sold].
Now I am wondering: what am I supposed to do?
Do I need to report anything to the U.S. tax authorities? The letter itself does not clarify what I am expected to do with this information.
Could it perhaps serve solely as documentation to facilitate the reclamation of any potentially overpaid taxes?
I feel a bit lost when it comes to this subject...
Thank you all in advance for your time and assistance.
