Applied to Manpower Toronto with my real name vs. a "fake" name. The response was instant.
I’ve always believed in the fairness of the Canadian job market, but my recent experience with Manpower Toronto has been a wake-up call.
I applied for a position I was fully qualified for and followed up multiple times with zero response. Frustrated, I decided to run a test: I submitted the exact same resume but changed my surname to "fake" name.
I got a response almost immediately.
It’s heartbreaking to realize that in 2026, a surname can still carry more weight than qualifications. I feel like the values this country stands for are being ignored.
Has anyone else in the GTA dealt with this "name-based" gatekeeping lately? How are we supposed to move forward when the system feels this rigged?
Ontario Human Rights is yet to respond to me, Canada has broken my heart.
