Hey everyone, I currently shoot with a Sony a6700 and love the image quality and autofocus, but I'm finding it too bulky for everyday carry and travel. I'm looking to downsize to something more compact that I'll actually take with me everywhere.
Budget: $1,500 USD. Open to used.
Country: United States
Condition: New or used
Type of Camera: Mirrorless or compact — open to either as long as it meets my needs
Intended use: Hybrid, but video first
End use: Social media, YouTube, personal travel documentation
Video style: Documentary/vlogging hybrid — mix of talking-to-camera and cinematic b-roll. Think run-and-gun travel content, street life, food, people, atmosphere
Features I absolutely need:
- Built-in microphone
- IBIS
- Fully articulating/flip screen for self shooting
- Strong color science with good log profile for color grading
- Compact enough to carry all day
Features that would be nice to have:
- Weather sealing
- Strong autofocus with subject tracking
- Good low light performance
- Film simulations or strong JPEG output
Portability: Small bag or shoulder strap — needs to be significantly more compact than a Sony a6700
Cameras I'm considering: None specifically — that's why I'm here. I want unbiased recommendations
Cameras I already own: Sony a6700 — love the autofocus, image quality, and IBIS. Dislike the size, no built-in microphone, and the bulk of needing external accessories for a complete video setup
Notes: Color grading capability is non-negotiable. I travel internationally and shoot in a very spontaneous, instinct-driven style. The less setup required the better.
