I have just finished my finals I am now 16 and before I wrote my finals my mom promised me to buy me a phone.

later , after my finals are over I ask my mom ,"When can we go buy a phone?" ,she says ,"go get ready and we'll go".

but, while I'm getting ready my mom comes up to me and says that "your dad does not approve of buying a phone" and says "we'll see next year"

Note: I've asked my parents for a phone for the last 6 years

Why would they do this and what should I do?
