Hello!!

I've been putting my 300E to the paces before going for it's first annual inspection in 4 years, and I've noticed, while I was bleeding air from the cooling system, the fuel gauge had been just under 1/2, but it kept twitching downwards a tiny bit, rhythmically even. But when I was finished, it had suddenly jumped down to just above R, meaning it either has difficulty to display properly or the reading from the float isn't good. This was all on a flat surface and without moving the car.

What should I check or do now? Anybody had this happen?

After sitting for a few years, the coolant reservoir in this 300E presents a strong brownish orange deposition on the interior, which I currently assume came from mixing two different types of coolant, lots of heat and lots of time.

I've since then, flushed the system twice, with about 15 liters of this Benz Juice —my own denomination—

while it hasn't really improved in colour (I'm using straight tap water in order to fill-flush faster) it has brought out more of that deposit I mentioned, which is somewhat similar in texture to wet dirt or clay. the coolant smelled like vinegar, although with sweet undertones sometimes.

Anyways, I wanted to ask about coolant system flushing.

How worried should I be about purging ?

What I've done till now is fill to the maximum mark on the reservoir, then run the engine for around 30-60 seconds in order for the pump to move the water through the block, then flush out and repeat, disregarding any crevices inside where air might have become trapped.

if I were to, how should I purge, considering the car cannot be driven out on the street?
