Just picked up the Tamron 150-500mm F5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (crazy long name)

Shooting on an A7iv, I'd tried out the Sigma 100-400mm and found I wasn't getting a sharp photo from it, so after a bunch of research (many hours of YouTube videos and comparison websites) I decided on the Tamron 150-500.

All of these photos were taken at the full 500mm zoom today under overcast skies, except for the last one taken at 150mm. Details are near perfect, bokeh is nice even though purists may say that a 7-blade aperture isn't all that great, so we can just let the pictures do the talking instead of listening to them.

At 2/3 the cost of the Sony 200-600, I'd say this was money well spent!

Continuing my Old Man Hobby™, today on lunch I found a Downy Woodpecker.

I buggered up my sleep schedule over the weekend, but I got these shots out of it. I've still got loads to learn when it comes to adjusting the camera before hitting the "GO" button, but with any luck I'll exceed last year's Milky Way photo this year.

It does look like I'm either going to have to get a star tracker, or find a darker site though, because there's SO much light pollution on the horizon still.
