About a year ago, I noticed my lips changed from smooth to wrinkled. I’ve always had discoloration, likely from smoking. Despite applying Vaseline, Aquaphor, or lip balm, my lips remained dry and cracked. They turned white, scaly, and burned, and I could taste things through them. They also felt swollen randomly throughout the day. This condition seemed to recur weekly. I consulted a dermatologist who diagnosed me with chellitis and prescribed tarcolimus ointment 0.1% twice daily for swelling and ketoconazole for fungal infections. This treatment was ineffective, so I consulted another dermatologist who diagnosed me with allergic contact dermatitis and prescribed desonide ointment 0.05%. Neither treatment has been successful.
