Let's change the name of the Ross R. Barnett Reservoir

The time has come to stop recognizing and exalting the names of segregationists in Mississippi. The Ross R. Barnett Reservoir, a significant body of water in our state, bears the name of a known segregationist governor who openly defied federal laws to maintain racial separation. While it has been over half a century since Barnett left office, his legacy continues to loom over our communities, reminding residents and visitors of a painful past.

Ross R. Barnett, who served as governor from 1960 to 1964, was a vocal advocate for racial segregation, defying Supreme Court orders and famously blocking African American students from entering the University of Mississippi in 1962. Such actions were not only damaging to the lives of countless Mississippians at the time but continue to symbolize a history of racial injustice.

Renaming the Ross R. Barnett Reservoir presents an opportunity for Mississippi to move forward, to reconcile with its history, and to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all its citizens.

By supporting this petition, you are advocating for a Mississippi that respects all its citizens equally and is committed to change. Let us work together to ensure that the names that grace our landmarks reflect the progress and unity we strive to achieve.

Rename the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi

The Stennis Space Center is one of Mississippi's most important scientific institutions. But it's named after Senator John C. Stennis, a longtime segregationist who fought against civil rights. That disconnect doesn't sit right.

I started a petition asking decision-makers to to rename the space center to something that actually reflects what it stands for: innovation, progress, and the future. A place this important should carry a name that inspires people from all backgrounds.

Thank you for your support.
