I am requesting assistance regarding a camera lens I sold.

The buyer, purchased the lens on March 29, 2026. I shipped it to the buyer’s address in New Castle, Delaware on March 30 via UPS, and tracking confirms delivery on March 31.

On April 25—25 days after delivery—the buyer contacted me stating that he had “just received the lens in Armenia” and claimed the item was defective. He requested a full refund without returning the item, citing the cost of shipping from Armenia.

I reviewed the video he provided and responded with detailed information:

  • The lens was fully functional when shipped.
  • I personally tested it on three different Canon bodies — 5D Mark IV, 7D, and 20D — and it performed without any issues.
  • The video shows the lens being shaken aggressively, which is not appropriate for a lens with floating elements used for vibration control.
  • The buyer was using a Canon R6 Mark II with an EF‑EOS R adapter, which introduces compatibility variables.

I also explained that, per Tamron’s official website and multiple user reports, this lens requires a firmware update to function properly on RF‑mount cameras. Without the update, autofocus and VC issues are expected.

Key concerns:

  1. The item was delivered to the buyer’s U.S. address on March 31.
  2. The buyer forwarded it internationally on their own.
  3. The item was outside my possession and outside the original delivery location for 25 days.
  4. Any damage or issues occurring during third‑party forwarding are outside my control.
  5. The buyer is requesting a refund without returning the item.
  6. The video was recorded at an Armenia shipping facility. Scam?

My questions:

  • Am I obligated to accept a return under these circumstances, given the 25‑day gap and international forwarding?
  • If a return is required, my understanding is that I am only responsible for the cost of return shipping from New Castle, Delaware, not from Armenia. Please confirm.
  • The payment is currently on hold. Why was it placed on hold, and what is required for it to be released?

I have acted in good faith, shipped promptly, and provided a fully functional item. I appreciate your guidance on the next steps.

Thank you!
