Kitchen sink repair questions pt2

I posted on here a couple weeks ago asking about some parts I needed to replace on my kitchen sink and I finally got around to picking them up so I figured since I had so many helpful responses on telling me what I needed to replace I could possibly get some advice on what exactly I needed to take apart in order to replace these parts to avoid taking apart more than what is necessary.

The metal ring shown in the picture and the white plastic Top Hat looking washer are what I need to replace and I know where the washer goes and I know where the metal ring goes but I'm just wanting to double check on what I need to do to get that metal ring off because it won't come up and off from the pipe so I'm assuming I need to unscrew the pipe from both ends and Slide the old cracked piece off from left to right and install the new one from right to left?

I'm sorry if that is a really dumb and obvious question but I'm just really trying to avoid taking apart more than I need to I'm just worried this sink is old to the point where if I unscrew something it could end up cracking and just lead to more and more replacements. Thanks.

Question about replacing parts for my kitchen sink

I need to replace the little plastic washer and the metal ring that has a crack in it right beneath the opening of my kitchen sink drain.

I know exactly where the plastic white washer goes because I removed the old one but I am a little confused about what I need to do to get this cracked metal ring to come off?

It won't come up and over where it is disconnected from so I'm assuming I just need to unscrew both ends of it and slide down and off to the right and then slide the replacement on from the right and up to where the old one was?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have no idea what I'm doing and have never really messed around with any of this stuff. Trying to avoid taking apart stuff if its not necessary. Thanks.
