My husband and I want to go stargazing on the Big Island. Mauna Kea is not really an option because I have dysautonomia and cannot handle elevation gain. Haleakalā was hard enough on me that I wouldn't do something like that again. I thought maybe we could drive to South Point to get away from light pollution, but I'm concerned about night driving. Is there a better place to go to see the stars on a clear night?

We are staying in Kailua-Kona.

I have a 1st grade student with a suspected brain injury from a difficult birth, cognitive impairment, dysarthria, and pretty severe one sided muscle weakness and reduced coordination. I’m measuring progress using a Percent Consonants Correct (PCC) measure. However, it is really difficult for me to judge whether a sound is correct for him. It’s often not quite right but he’s also not stimulable so I’m tempted to count it as correct if it is similar enough. For example, he produces /s/ in a way where it is perceptually obvious his mandible is lateralized due to one sided muscle weakness and his tongue is protruding out one side of his mouth, but I’ve never been able to get a clear /s/ even in isolation. Yet, the unclear /s/ DOES affect his intelligibility, unlike a lisp.

It’s a lot easier to judge correctness when it’s a phonological process and the errored sound completely sounds like a different sound. Any tips? One concern is that my data shows a high PCC measure but another SLP who inherits him will judge it to be much lower. I’m considering changing his goal to be an intelligibility goal.

Whenever I pick up my flute and start playing, I feel like I sound pretty good (for a beginner). Then I'll practice and get better, but after 40ish minutes of playing, I feel like it's so hard to have good tone and embouchure. So I stop. But even coming back a few hours later, I still can't play right again.
