So I'm writing a semiparodic fangan and one of my ideas is a scenario where a triple murder happens and the culprit is then executed for a rule violation. There are a few interesting ideas I had, and I'd like to ask: Have any of these been done before in a fangan?

By the way: the theme is "What happens in the edge cases of what is possible in Danganronpa?" This is why I went for something like breaking the rule that the blackened may only kill a maximum of two people during any single killing game, but there are other ideas I'd like to cover.

If any of these have been done before, let me know.

  • The protagonist is the Ultimate Hairdresser, as a play on the fact that all Danganronpa protagonists have ahoges. This is actually used during investigations.
  • The protagonist's main personality trait is that they think despair is boring. Yes, seriously. This is deliberately a counterpoint to Junko.
  • The fanganronpa takes place after the Tragedy, with it actually factoring into most backstories. The question of how people who grew up through the Tragedy would turn out is asked.
  • The Monokuma is specifically one of the Monokuma Units seen in Ultra Despair Girls, not a standard Monokuma.
  • Chapter 1 killer, an Ultimate Model, accidentally triggered their own deathtrap and died to it. The deathtrap was intended for a very support-coded character (the Ultimate Composer, who composes horror film soundtracks and is very genre-saavy) who seemingly would be a chapter 1 victim, but now actually gets to be the support. The killer's corpse is then executed by being dragged: chapter 1 executions always involve a collar dragging the victim and are brutal, and this one is no exception.
  • A character literally dresses up as the generic blackened.
  • A character, the Ultimate Knife Collector, was brainwashed into being a serial killer during the Tragedy, and killed another character's parents. Thus two backstories are tied together. By the way, the ex-serial killer was brainwashed when they killed their victims, and thus is not culpable. They are treated sympathetically, but that doesn't change the fact that they were the physical instrument of the killings.
  • A character is supposedly the Ultimate Lucky Student, but that's a lie. They are then the Ultimate ??? for a while, but it turns out they were the Ultimate Lottery Rigger, and rigged the Ultimate Lucky Student lottery. Why did the new Hope's Peak still have that lottery? Because it brought Makoto there, and he saved the world, so the Ultimate Lucky Student lottery saved the world.
  • There is a detailed explanation of why you would ship someone with their own murderer: the relationship could have been healthier under better circumstances, and what we saw was a worse context.
  • As I said earlier, the No Triple Kills rule is broken in chapter 3 by the Ultimate Engineer, resulting in a body discovery with 4 bodies.
  • There is an Ultimate Shipper, but she is not annoying. She is an Ultimate - the best in her field - and thus knows what a healthy ship is, as well as not arguing about her ships.
  • In chapter 4 the buff guy, an Ultimate Interrogator, killed in an attempt to take out the one he believed was the mastermind. He was actually right. However, the cast don't find out that the one the buff guy killed was actually the mastermind, due to certain coverup setup, as well as the killing game still going on.
  • The AI character (the mastermind) was the Ultimate Linguist. This is based on the fact that LLMs occasionally put an out-of-place foreign word in their replies.
  • A murder is committed using a landmine. Where did the blackened get a landmine? From a used execution chamber. Yes, somehow, the idea that execution props are real usable objects has never been touched.
  • The rival character follows despair openly and is an Ultimate Analyst like Junko... but is not insane, nor are they evil. This is because they do not force despair onto others. Coming up with hypothetical worst-case scenarios in your head is not inherently bad. Anyway, the rival character is hiding the fact they are more general than usual, but their specialty is actually Ultimate Architect. The idea of someone investigating by analysing the building would be interesting.
  • A character worships the concept of boredom. (This idea may or may not be cut.)
  • The chapter 6 reveal is that the stakes were much lower than what was imagined. The whole killing game was a simulation, just like the Neo World Program... and it was the ENTRANCE EXAM OF THE NEW HOPE'S PEAK. The erased memories were the participants consenting to have their memories of consenting temporarily removed while they take part in an entrance exam. The reason why the students of the new Hope's Peak are put through a simulated, fake killing game is to reveal their true selves, in order to ensure that people like Junko never get into the school again.
  • As such, the mastermind was not evil, which I think is also a new idea.
  • It is made clear that Hope's Peak was reopened to be a think tank, allowing Ultimates to interact and collaborate. The fake killing game entrance exam was there to establish how these Ultimates would act in a worst case scenario.
  • A sequel might occur, and will use some characters from this killing game as well as some new ones.

There's a rule in Danganronpa that says:

  • The guilty party may only kill a maximum of two people during any single "Killing Game."

This rule exists solely to prevent the asking of the question: "Why doesn't a blackened just kill everyone? Are they stupid?" With this rule in place, killing a third person would result in immediate death. It's one of the few Danganronpa rules that exists to be followed, not to be broken... which would make it much more shocking if this rule was broken in a fanganronpa.

Remember, violating the rules results in EXECUTION. Monokuma wouldn't bring back the third victim even in situations he could. Meaning there would now be FOUR corpses lying there. One quarter of the cast gone at once.

This shocking scenario is more plausible than you think.

It very well could happen hypothetically if a culprit was somehow witnessed after committing double murder and killed the third person, whether by accident or on purpose as a form of spite. Now, Monokuma would probably still declare a class trial, and the cast would then have to figure out something... Which of the four dead was the culprit?

Of course, the scenario would have to be set up to make the case NOT incredibly easy for a chapter 3. Maybe the culprit threw two people off a tower with a trap, a third person saw it, the culprit pushed the third person off the tower, and then jumped off themselves, before Monokuma showed up and executed the fatally injured culprit with a gatling gun that also swiss cheesed the three corpses around them. Any other scenarios that AREN'T incredibly easy to solve would be appreciated suggestions.

Do you know of any fanganronpas that have the triple kill rule broken at some point? And could you give suggestions on how to handle this scenario in a way that doesn't ruin the fanganronpa? I WOULD make the chapter's Daily Life longer than usual to give more screentime to these characters before their demise - a Despair Disease motive fully elapsing with no killing could be an interesting prelude to this case.
