That is my friend's argument in our discussion of our opinion on free will. My opinion is that every choice we make or will ever make is "predetermined" by our desires, emotions, experiences etc. He counterargued that if every choice is predetermined, there is a "first choice" that is based entirely upon free will which causes sort of a chain reaction that results in every other choice after that one having some free will to it. We then continued on eventually reaching the point of biological and genetic predetermination such as: instinct and reflex. We then continued to the fact that the big bang is likely caused by quantum fluctuations which in in of itself is pure randomness. And if what we derive from is pure randomness and that pure randomness shapes our so called predetermined genes like instinct than does that completely disregard determinism? Who is in the right and who is in the wrong?
