I think it's a lack of respect for community. Imagine if every religious group would put a cart in a public area. From Mormons to pentecostal church. Town would be filled with carts. They don't do it cause they know better. It's not a discrete or respectful way to convey your message.

Also it has become really dangerous standing there ( not that the GB ever cared about safety of regular JWs). Think it's time for org to change tactics and remove the carts.

Lived in Sweden back in the 90s and was a JW. JWs used to brag about not receiving government money. That changed beginning of 2007.

Assembly hall in Sweden was sold 2013. It was the biggest assembly hall in the world own by org. Plus lots of Kingdom halls also got sold. Before that in every meeting they used to ask for donations.

Then org started to apply for government grants year 2007. After years of court battles government gave in and granted them right to grants. But they got denied any government help last year. Government changed laws about who could receive state help ( link to article below). In Sweden in the 90s there were about 3000 more JWs then there are today.

I think watchtower org are having financial problems. Maeby zeal has gone and JWs don't donate as much. Maeby they struggling economically. Or there are just fewer JWs in western world to support org financially.
