Instacart Shopper in tears yesterday

Not sure what to tag this so…..Yesterday (Mother’s Day) I did not shop but I did place an order—my kids were visiting and the older ones wanted some drinks so I placed an order and tipped VERY well as I knew it was a busy day. I ordered 8 items (to make it worth it for both shopper and me) and three items were alcohol). It was a single order (it wasn’t a multi-order batch—at least the app didn’t show that she was shopping multiple orders which it usually does). When she got to my door, I was waiting with ID and she came to my door SOBBING. The paper bag had broken when she went to pull it out of her car and one of the bottles of wine broke all over the street. She said that she would return to the store and get another bottle but I told her to not worry about it—she didnt need to replace and I wouldn’t report it—she said she was having a really bad day and didnt know why she was crying and I told her that I also shop for instacart and related a story about a time in which I tripped on some of those low-rise stairs while carrying a loaded bag and a gallon of milk and in addition to ripping my jeans and my knee open, I dropped the milk and the container busted spilling milk everywhere. I cried then too: not because I was in pain (I was) but because I was terrified the customer would report me and my SQ would drop. This company will ruin you, man. I am older and I have a few higher degrees and hold a leadership position at my job, but Instacart has psychologically damaged me with its vague rules and lack of basic humanity. I am only shopping until I can catch up on some bills (single parent—four kids and four grandkids) and I have had a really rough year financially) and just cannot believe how difficult just shopping for groceries can be for someone who just wants to do a good job. I teach high school and that job is tough but this one is on a different level.

Sorry for the rant. Just thought I would share a little.

Don’t let the bastards get you down, guys.

Thanks for the award! Never gotten one before!
