This is the first time I'm getting into danmei or really any Chinese media, so I'm a little confused about the names. Can someone explain what a formal name is and how they work? Is Wei Wuxian's formal name Wuxian or Ying? I understand that it's important that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji use the specific names with each other but I don't get why, if that makes sense.
