Immobility very very slowly recovering with steroids…. It’s not cancer, FCE, IVDD.

• Pit mix from the pound, 6 yo, spayed female, 55 lbs • Spayed at 4 mos, some spay incontinence as a puppy/when excited. 18 mos ago she went limp, discovered both back legs had torn Acls, 1 also had a meniscal tear. Tplo 8 mos ago on the worse 1.

A week ago I found her in the backyard immobile. Took her to the vet and they did X-rays. Sent them to specialists and they were able to rule out cancer IVDD and all other spinal x ray related issues. Subsequent x rays on back legs show no new injuries. There was no obvious trauma, she went from being 100% mobile to 100% immobile within 20 mins and I just don’t know what happened in that 20 mins but I didn’t hear anything. Her front legs were incredibly stiff but she’s slowly regaining mobility and can knuckle around/punch me to get my attention. She’s now able to crawl, stand up to go potty on a pee pad, and crawl/walk with support. Very, very slowly she’s improving.

Appt with neurologist in 2 weeks. No fever. Bloodwork is normal. No ticks. Majority of her poops are normal, some are diarrhea.

She sometimes does this teeth/jaw chattering thing- I noticed it for the first time maybe 6 mos ago and she does it for a minute or so a couple times a day. I’m able to distract her and it stops.

She is restrained to her kennel when not under supervision and under strict vet instructions to just chill.

Okay so all the typical end of year stuff is going on- field trips (my responsibility,) dances, rosters, test training, test prep, IEP annual/reval/transition meetings, etc etc etc…..

Plus my landlord said I have to vacate my house by July so I’m in the process of trying to buy a home, I made an offer and am currently going through the due diligence period….. first time homebuyer so I have no clue wtf I’m doing… and the home is 70 years old so god knows what’s going to be wrong with it (inspection is today)….

On top of all that, my dog has some kind of mysterious ailment and she can’t walk or stand by herself, so she’s literally laying on puppy pads all day and won’t let me clean her butt….the vet doesn’t know what’s wrong but they want me to bring her in again, oh she went potty? Never mind. Oh we got these test results in, bring her in again. They’re calling me at work and I’m trying to understand what’s going on but my brain is so overwhelmed by all these other responsibilities…. Plus I’m grieving that there’s a chance I could lose her….

I’m losing it

  1. 175k 2bd/1ba townhome in a duplex. Fully renovated, new AC, roof, etc. Closer to beach (my happy place, more expensive insurance). .1 acre, local electric and free trash pickup. 30 min commute to work and beach. Right by military base, great resale value.
  2. 185k 3bd/1ba single family home. Roof replaced 7 years ago, has a carport and .7 acres. Evil huge electric company, private trash. Comes with washer and dryer and portable dishwasher thing (I need to replace my washer) and nice new deck. 20 min commute to work, an hour to beach (10 min to hiking/lake with sandy beach area). Rural area.

Taxes comparable about ~100/month. Bathroom small in both. I’ve been commuting 50 min to work 5 days a week for 4 years. My dog is pretty reactive. I’m very easily overwhelmed and stressed by major choices/decisions. I’m a teacher and make no money.

TLDR- good investment or privacy/homeownership “feeling”?
