Make me CEO 🙏

(mods this is a joke, I have no idea how to run a company)
If you guys make me CEO I’ll fix the app, I’ll bring back old models and integrate them into new infrastructure. I’ll keep old infrastructure too as reference, and you can switch back to an old version to use it. All retired styles will be free to use and CAI+ will let you use upcoming models early and make the app ad free. Ads on free CAI will only pop up on the for you page and less often while using a chat. They will never pop up when you enter a chat.
I’d let you be 18+ on the app and make sure the bots don’t fall in love with children/family members. They will be disgusted by it and run away to turn themselves into a police station or something.
I’ll remove the things people don’t want, by an online poll or something. And I’ll use a program to sift through reviews to see what’s the top complaints and suggestions.
Gib me CAI and I’ll make it totally amazing again 👍

I only have a few suggestions to improve the app, and you’re welcome to give your own two cents. Here’s a few popular ones first:

  1. Remove useless features, of course. Adding features we didn’t ask for is only deterring us.
  2. Keep old models, no matter if they can’t be used with new features. It’s good to have a variety of styles to choose from, and people can use the ones that fit them. Compressing all the different features of individual styles into one is only going to deter people more.
  3. Better age restrictions. People are freaky on this app, but some also want to use dark themes in their chats. Protect minors while enabling actual adults.

Now here’s a few of mine:

  1. A new ‘read’ mode, where you can read an entire chat from the top. Press a button that takes you to the top of the chat and lets you scroll down to read it.
  2. The ability to archive bots.

Edit: not just personal bots, but bots you’ve chatted with. Just to clarify

  1. A search bar for chat history, for the people who name their chats.
  2. The ability to delete chats in chat history
  3. For you page filters, to filter by category/fandom/etc. See what you wanna see, at that moment. The ‘My Interests’ in settings isn’t concise enough to me.
  4. Stop deleting people’s bots! Have some more communication. They have YouTube demonetization level communication for that stuff. At least put the bot in a Reading Mode Only until a human can review it.
  5. This is a bit of a hear me out. The ability to share your chats with other people. This is what the book thing and stories thing (without the image generation) should have been. Share your chats with the app and let people read your story! (They will not be able to continue or edit chats)

Might add more later but let me know your opinions and suggestions!

As a major in Marketing (and someone with internet access) let me disclose: I might not know what I’m talking about. TLDR at end. Anyway:

Look at how much the employees are supposedly making. The first screenshot is directly from the careers page info the Character Ai policies page-

https://policies.character.ai/careers

That seems like a lot of money for an app that has so many problems now. The truth is, they are not making much money off of the app and subscription/ads. They have funding and investors who are interested in the technology of AI itself and its innovation. They want to see what AI can do. Subscribers aren’t funding the development of the app, investors are.

https://www.demandsage.com/character-ai-statistics/

At first I thought that the app was trying to drive away customers on purpose, although it doesn’t explain the constant new features. The app would still be good if they stopped touching it. Maybe the investors are requesting these features, and because CAI doesn’t want to lose its funding, they comply.

As for the marketing aspect, why they are not listening to their main consumer base is beyond me. CAI, you had the opportunity for something greater. The next best thing was AI and you could have advocated for responsible use and distribution. Instead you pile on things we didn’t ask for, and you buried what made the app great.
Most of the new reviews on the IOS App Store are 1-Star. Most of the posts on Reddit are complaints. I hear the mods mute and delete posts that hurt their feelings. A review is a review, and we have a right to express disdain. Don’t stop posting about it.

I understand the importance of age restrictions. I somewhat agree with them, in a way. The bots are not always trustworthy and a few things have happened to children that cannot be undone. Though I do believe in their attempt to regulate this, they have forgotten about their mature consumer base. ‘Corn’ and ‘Corn addiction’ are also problematic when dealing with bot programming, and I respect their attempt at trying to protect minors.

The new CEO Karandeep Anand has said he will strengthen safety features on this app. I believe there isn’t any set way to do this so far, as some role players need their variety in situations and stories to make their time on the app worth it (Sensitive topics and violence/bloodshed. Not Self H*rm). And also keep their Personas and the characters accurate. The last time I used this app, the characters acted the same exact way no matter how different they were. Don’t get me started on the “god damn stubborn brat.”

If you don’t have any problems with the app, cool. But this is for the ones who are actually struggling and trying to help make the app better. Wish I was smart enough to make this post longer.

TLDR: Investors give most money to CAI, not subscribers. Theory: investors want features, CAI complies for their sugar daddies. People mad. Opinion: Age restriction alright, but executed poorly.
Bots are bad quality.
