Well, usually all the updates until the last one passed me by, all the ads, all the other nonsense, but this deadly day has come and I want to say a few words.
I'm shocked at how such a great website could be ruined. Seriously, I've been here since 2023 (maybe 2022, I just don't remember). I loved this site. It might not be the best AI, but damn, compared to other sites, it seemed the most convenient. It's nice to chat and easy to create bots. I survived the stupid redesign of the entire site, and I've come to terms with the other changes. But age verification? Pfft, sorry, I'm not going to take photos of my identity card just so you can tell me to "**** you."

So apparently, some genius product manager decided that “you can no longer chat with Characters… but your memories are saved.”
Oh really? Thank you so much. I was worried I’d forget the good old days when the app actually did something. 😭
And my favorite part:

Yes, because my age is clearly why your app turned into a digital cemetery. I was 29 yesterday – fully interactive. Today I turn 30? BOOM. Read-only mode. Makes perfect sense. /s
Honestly, this would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad.
Imagine WhatsApp saying: “You can no longer send messages. Here are your old ones. Bye.”
Or YouTube: “You can read comments but never post. Enjoy the void.”
This isn’t an app anymore. It’s a screenshot with extra steps.
And they keep your “memories” like that’s a feature. Bro, I don’t want a museum. I want a conversation.

The bots are noticeably worse than they were even a week ago. This new "pay for swipes" thing is the nail in the coffin. I don't see how using this app is fun anymore. But props to them, at least now I can do more productive things.

I don't know what they mean by that. I verified my age, yet it didn't let me chat with my bots I used to chat. I used my Romanian ID, since I don't have a German one (Yes, I live in germany). Does anyone know what they meant by "You can still use Character ai, but 1:1 chats won't work?"

Passing the Age Assurance once does not mean a user is safe from being flagged.
Many users seem to believe that if they haven’t been flagged yet, they will never be flagged in the future. This is false.
The “Age Assurance Tech” that Persona and C.AI use as the first step in attempting to determine user age, reviews activity regularly, not just once.
Accounts are reviewed every few weeks, so that if they tag as user as “safe” originally, they can flag them at any time later if the user triggers one of the minor-indicative behavior criteria (of which we do not know).
Citing MOD u/LuladaConLechera in a comment under this post :
“We will be reviewing age assessments periodically and may update a user’s category if we receive new information or signals.”
It’s worrisome to see so many people think that they are safe from getting flagged simply because they passed the ai’s most recent behavioral age estimation check. When in reality, they will have thought they were safe, only to be disappointed.
Don’t celebrate too early. Unverified users can be flagged at any time, even if you managed to pass detection for months previously.

Like wtf? I recently posted something here about how i deleted the app because of its loss in quality and overall downhill performance. First time, got deleted. Okay! Second time, guess what? Got deleted again! I loved the app for years, truly, but enough is enough.
