Hi all,

Looking at these two Kona Electrics and wanted opinions from people who actually own/driven them.

2021 Hyundai Kona Electric Premium SE 64kWh
- ~14k miles
- £13.1k

2021 Hyundai Kona Electric Ultimate 64kWh
- ~40k miles
- £13.4k
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202605012039904

Main things I care about are:
- Reversing camera
- Front parking sensors
- Ventilated seats
- HUD
- Good warranty remaining
- 64kWh battery/range

The Premium SE has much lower mileage, but the Ultimate seems to have more kit and still isn’t much more money.

Which would you go for and why? Also are these actually good deals in the current UK EV market, or should I keep looking?

Anything major I should check on Kona EVs before buying? I’ve heard bits about coolant issues and reduction gear noise.

Thanks.

Hi all,

We’re looking to buy a used Hyundai Kona Electric, most likely a 2020–2022 Premium SE or Ultimate. Budget is around £12k–£14k.

We’re based in Essex, but happy to travel around 100 miles for the right car.

Our must-have features are:

  • Reversing camera
  • Ventilated seats
  • Front parking sensors

A few questions for current or previous owners:

  1. What are the main things to check when viewing one?
  2. Are there any common faults or expensive issues on the 64kWh models?
  3. Is mileage around 40k–50k a concern on these, or are they generally solid at that age?
  4. As the original 5-year warranty will be ending soon on many 2020/2021 cars, would you recommend buying from a Hyundai main dealer for warranty/peace of mind?
  5. Is an extended warranty worth paying for, or are these cars reliable enough without one?
  6. Premium SE vs Ultimate, is the Ultimate worth paying extra for, or is Premium SE the better value?
  7. Anything likely to need money spent soon after purchase, such as tyres, brakes, 12V battery, suspension, charging issues, heat pump, battery health checks, etc.?

We’re mainly after a reliable 2nd EV for travelling to work and back with good range and low running costs, so any real-world ownership advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.
