Anyone in HCI Saclay taken courses outside the program (CV/ML)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been admitted to the HCI master’s at Paris-Saclay, and I’m trying to plan my electives.

My main interest is at the intersection of HCI and computer vision. However, from what I can see, there aren’t dedicated computer vision courses within the HCI curriculum itself.

So I wanted to ask:

  • Is it possible to take electives from other departments/programs (like computer vision/image processing courses)?
  • Has anyone here done this or knows how flexible the system is?
  • Are there any recommended ways to incorporate CV into the HCI track (projects, labs, thesis, etc.)?

My long-term goal is to pursue a PhD in computer vision, so I’m trying to make sure I build a strong enough foundation during my master’s.

Would really appreciate any insights or experiences!

Thanks :)

what matters most University ranking vs Course alignment ?

I have two master’s options, and I’m trying to decide based on a long-term goal, PhD/ industry roles(computer vision / computational imaging).

Option A(visual computing, TU Graz, Austria): Directly focused on computer vision/visual computing with a structured curriculum.

Option B(HCI, University of Paris Saclay, France): More flexible/interdisciplinary (not CV-focused by default), but with a stronger research ecosystem and the possibility to pivot into CV through electives, labs, and thesis.

My main concern is:
Is it better to take the guaranteed alignment (A) or the higher ceiling but riskier path (B)?

University ranking vs Course alignment

I have two master’s options, and I’m trying to decide based on long-term goals (PhD or industry roles in computer vision / computational imaging).

Option A (TU Graz, Austria): Directly focused on computer vision/visual computing with a structured curriculum.

Option B (University of Paris-Saclay, France): More flexible/interdisciplinary (not CV-focused by default), but with a stronger research ecosystem and the possibility to pivot into CV through electives, labs, and thesis.

My main concern is:
Is it better to take the guaranteed alignment (A), or the higher ceiling but riskier path (B)?

Would appreciate insights from people who’ve gone through a similar decision, especially those who later pursued a PhD or relevant industry roles.

Does getting 1st preference admit mean automatic rejection from 2nd?

Salut,

Désolé de poster en anglais, mon français n’est pas encore assez bon 😅

I applied to two master’s programs at Université Paris-Saclay and ranked them by preference (Program A as 1st, Program B as 2nd).

I received an offer from Program A (my first choice at the time of application), but now I’m realizing that Program B might actually be a better fit for me.

Does this automatically mean I will be rejected from my 2nd preference, or is there still a chance I could be considered/accepted for it?

Would appreciate it if anyone knows how this works.

Merci!
