Baked some Red Velvet Crinkles and preheat the oven to 165C, but it went all the way up to 220C by the time they were done cooking. (During the 10 minutes). If i left the oven on for more time it would’ve went up to 250C.

My settings are convection with the fan on and bake heating element (bottom side only)

Is it a problem with my oven or my thermometer? I really need help as it burns my other food or cooks it too fast due to the high heat. It has resulted in crunchy hard bread and overcooked pastries.

The oven gets to the right temperature but exceeds that like it has no automatic temperature control. My cookies have been okay since they require small amounts of baking time but for food such as breads, cakes and pies that require a lot of time in the oven, it ends up overcooking, undercooking or burning them due to the temperature going way beyond what I set.

Whenever I preheat my Oven to say around 200C, it ends up going to that temperature but when I am gonna bake my food, it ends up going up to 220C especially in long baking times like 40-50 or more minutes.

This is the same case when I turn my convection oven’s fan on or off.
