2013 ford explorer sport poor acceleration after having water pump replaced

This past moday i took my 2013 ford explorer sport in to the mechanic because its been having a coolant leak for a while. Ive been replacing the fluid regularly. While working on the car the mechanic said i needed an oil change and also said a belt snapped so he went ahead and did the oil change and changed the belt. I rarely drive the car since I carpool, it has 82k miles. I wound up driving into work today and there was a lot of traffic so I didnt realize any acceleration issues until later in the day when I got out of work. While driving home I tried getting onto the highway and I was gunning the pedal, but the car was barely moving. It took forever to get to 60mph, I couldn't even get to 80. Even with the water pump issue, the car always had power, that was never an issue. Now all of a sudden it feels like what I would imagine a 2 cylinder car to run. What are my options? What is the most likely culprit? I initially asked him if he recommended doing the timing chain while the engine was open( many other people recommended it like family or friends, or a mobile.mechanic I spoke with) but he didnt recommend doing it for whatever reason so he didnt do it. Now I have this issue on my hands. Is this is a big problem? An easy fix? I paid close to 2k for the above work at an actual brick and mortar mechanic shop close to my house. Thanks peeps
