I was about to drop ₹10k–15k on a dedicated CarPlay/Android Auto screen for my Himalayan 450, but I decided to DIY it instead using an old Android phone.

The Setup:

Hardware: Old Android phone + solid handlebar mount.

Software: Headunit Reloaded (HUR).

Total Cost: ~₹430 (App license).

Why it’s a win:

Massive Savings: 95% cheaper than buying a dedicated unit.

Save your Camera: My main phone stays safe in my pocket/bag, protected from engine vibrations that kill OIS.

Performance: Most old phones have better screen resolution and brightness than the cheap standalone units.

It’s working "crazy" well—maps and music are seamless. If you have an old phone lying around, don't waste your money on overpriced screens!

Anyone else doing this? Any tips for heat management or waterproofing for the monsoon?
