In the canon Marvel comic Darth Maul #2 (2017) there is a flashback scene where Palpatine takes a very young Maul to the Sith temple on Malachor. This is the same temple that Kanan, Ahsoka and Ezra go to many years later where they encounter an older, an apparently marooned, Maul. He tricks Ezra into assisting him in activating the temple, which turns out to be a “battle station” that he intends to use as a weapon against the emperor, until Vader arrives and he flees. My question is this: was the emperor aware of the Sith temple’s ability to become a battle station when he visited it with Maul? If so, why didn’t he take it for himself?
