Hi,

we are moving away from California to our home country in just a few weeks. Because of this we sold our car and got a rental car from sixt. We still had our own insurance via progressive and thought we could keep it, but a few hours after starting the car rental we found out that we could not really and asked sixt if we could add their insurance even though the rental had started already. We googled sixt hotline and called the number Google AI said we should - well, it was a scam! It all seemed very legit. We paid the money and cancelled progressive insurance. Then a few days later one of the tires popped and only then we found out that we are really not insured at all! It's late at night so we can't do much right now as all hotlines are closed.

- We have been able to report it to our bank and will likely get the money back

- Progressive is not available until tomorrow. even then, we could very likely only add the named non owner insurance I think. However last time we got insurance for a car it took two weeks to underwrite.

- Sixt says we have to go to the rental pickup station as they need to decide how to proceed. We would need to uber there though and I am not sure what their solution would be as they likely would not just sell us insurance but would want to see the car? I guess any kind of towing we would need to pay. We bugged them again to help us via phone and they told as they will get to us within 48h. Seems long?

Would love to here some experiences or what you think the best way to get out of this situation is. It sucks so much!!!
