Best way to get from Rome to Lecce (flight or train?)
I booked a group tour that starts in Lecce (coming from the US). The company recommends flying into Brindisi and booking that flight separately through a local airline instead of an American airline. I would need to land in Brindisi by 2:45 pm and take a shuttle to our hotel in Lecce about 45 minutes away (so arriving in Lecce around 3:30-3:45 pm). My only flight options are either expensive if I book through an American airline all the way through to Brindisi or if I book a local flight to Brindisi separately from Rome to save money, the times don’t seem to workout to give me enough time to go through customs, pick up my checked bag, re-check my bag and go back through security. I am worried I'd miss my flight if I tried this. I am thinking of saving money and trying to take a train from Rome to Lecce. I am seeing potential train options arriving in Lecce around 3:45 pm which is perfect. I am unfamiliar with traveling by train so was wondering if there's anything I should know, if this plan sounds doable, etc. and if there are nonstop options or if I'd need to switch trains at any point? Also, are there multiple train stops in Lecce that these fast trains from Rome stop at or is there one main stop and where is that located? Is there a main site/train line I should use to book my ride? TIA!
