I was literally in the middle of setting up this community art stall when Drew just decided he was going to take over the presenting part. My hands were covered in paint, tape stuck to my sleeve, and I was still fixing the signs I’d been working on for days at my kitchen table with cold tea sitting next to me untouched.

He looks over everything and goes, “I’ll handle talking to the organizers, I’m better at speaking anyway,” like it was already agreed. I just paused there holding the tape roll, thinking… what?

I told him I made all the designs and he just laughed and said I’d be better as “support,” while he explains it. Maya even kind of nodded along and I just went quiet because it felt pointless arguing in that moment.

He actually started practicing what he’d say out loud while I was still labeling things, like I wasn’t the one who built the whole setup from scratch. That part really stuck with me.

Now I’m just sitting here feeling weird about it, like all the effort was mine but someone else is automatically stepping into the spotlight for it. Also I still have glitter in my shoes from earlier and it’s driving me insane.
