Hey, I‘m a student of JKU and in my second semester of my studies right now. I‘ve been living in the Julius-Raab-Heim since last November. Now I only have a few days left to figure out if I should extend my stay here and make a new contract for the next winter semester, but I actually don‘t want to do that as I can no longer afford it financially.

I reached out to WIST (Barbara, Johanna) as the rent there is still much cheaper than what I am paying now and the rooms and houses are looking quite good. Anyway, they sent me an email today in which they wrote that my preliminary review was positive (whatever that means) and that I need to pay 45€ now in order for them to further process my request. I applied for two of their student hostels and also don‘t know which one we‘re talking about here.

I also have no clue if my chances in getting a room in one of the two are now good or if there‘s a small chance anyway. This seems a little weird to me and in any case they won‘t refund my money.

My main question now is: Does anyone have experience with WIST and would you pay the fee in my case? What‘s it like to live there, particularly the houses Barbara and Johanna because the reviews I‘ve read on Google are not exactly the best.

Thanks so much for any advice!

If you have recommendations for other student residencies in Linz (doesn‘t have to be near JKU at all as I‘m not just studying there) please let me know!
