I'm not American and I wonder how much each of those patients we see would be expected to pay for their visit? I'm not very clear on the insurance options or the difference in hospital types. Would The Pitt be considered a standard hospital and most of the patients are there because it's the closest to them?

I have just finished season 1 and some examples off the top of my head, Louis seems to be in and out enough that he's familiar with the team, but is he paying for each of those visits? In general, I've noticed the relatively minor cases get a fairly comprehensive "order". Biomarker screens, CT scan, X-Rays, antibiotics, pain medication seem very common.

I imagine that the requirements in emergencies that go to the OR and require multiple days stay are much more.

I'm used to the idea of private and public hospitals, where public hospitals are generally considered substandard in terms of service delivery, so fairly expensive medical aid is recommended in case the need for treatment at a private hospital arises. Does the US have a similar system? I've also heard different kinds of insurance being mentioned but I'm not sure what the difference between them is.

Any insights into how things work over there in terms of insurance and payment would be appreciated!
