What's your best advice for a middle-aged person trying seasonal work?

A little context: I'm a 40 y/o man with a college degree and military background. Lifetime hiker and backpacker with transportation and no problem relocating. I'm familiar with coolworks and the major companies. I'd welcome any advice from anyone as to expectations and best practices. Thank you, and feel free to DM if you have any specific insights!

Divorce trials should be an Olympic sport

The venue would be a stadium-sized courtroom called the Baratariat. Like "barrister," but with the ring of a menacing Soviet bureaucracy. There would be a judging panel similar to figure skating, and live commentators to make unflattering comments about the contestants.

Southern Maine Water District

The most frightening hike of my life. Somewhere along the ridgeline, my phone lit up with emergency alerts: "Take shelter NOW. Get to safety NOW." The alert warned that a freezing air pattern from the Northwest was about to drop temperatures by double digits in just a few minutes. I double-timed it out of there with my dog, and this is the last pic I took before my socks froze to my ankles. It was like something from a horror/SF movie, but terrible and fascinating with that "tornado weather" light...the wrong place at the right time lol.

Department Meeting

We had a department meeting yesterday morning, and a colleague mentioned that she had "tried" to resign. The APC told her that they weren't accepting resignations, but would reconsider her request in "ten or fifteen years."

Said colleague teaches all AP and AICE classes. This kind of thing makes you wonder about who you share the world with.

Future of male teachers - Sincere advice appreciated!

In the ten years I've been teaching, I've watched male teachers "self-deport" at an increasing rate. There are different issues in play across states and districts, but the data points to an all-time low in male teachers...particularly black and Latino male teachers.

My own experience in the Midwest and Southeast supports this, with minority and career-change male teachers fleeing after one or two years.

I'm interested in any thoughts!

Edit: Anyone with an internet connection can confirm the plummeting number of male teachers to historic all-time lows. It is happening, irrespective of any one individual experience. Why?
