Is it safe to insert a different ssd to laptop?

I got this old 256 gb m.2 sata ssd drive lying around with some data on it I need. I dont have a reader for it so I am planning on opening up my Lenovo ideapad, switching drives for a moment, extract stuff and swap again. Would that be safe? could switching drives like that cause any problems

How do I take out SSD

My old Dell Vostro laptop completely died out after having a blackout in BIOS, I have extracted most of the stuff I need such as battery, RAM and such, but am unable to take out the SSD as its screw is completely messed up. Any advice on how to take it out without damaging it?
