When Is It Time to Euthanize? :(

I’ve been trying to treat this guy for 5 weeks now, I’ve had him 7 months. Looks like some type of really bad swim bladder. I’ve lowered the water done daily water changes for the last 3 weeks and increased the temp to 81. When I got him he had a similar issue and it took 3 weeks to beat it but now he’s refusing food… My last guy I had to use clove oil on too it was the same issue. I’m so sad I feel like the long finned bettas always end up with this issue.

I also used bettafix alongside the water changes. There isn’t a ton of fin rippage though. I added a half dosage of aquarium salt because there are cherry barbs in this 15 gallon too. The poor guy just floats there every day on the top sideways.

Water parameters are all fine I used the api testing kit and all were within the appropriate range. and I only have live plants.

🐠 Aquarium Background

I’ve been keeping tanks since I was 6 years old, so almost 10–11 years now!

🏡 Tank 1 — 29 Gallon Tall Planted Community Tank

🌿 Hardscape / Plants

Ocostone

Amazon Swords

Pearl Weed

Salvinia

Moss Balls

Pothos Plant (my cats tore it from its pot so it looks sad — I’m hoping this saves it)

🐟 Fish Stocking

Betta

Cleopatra – 4-year-old female Betta fish sadly with a huge tumor, but she is eating well and doing good.

Mollies

1 female balloon molly named Little Josephina

1 juvenile black molly (she accidentally slipped into my hat one pet store visit lol)

Corydoras

2 albino Corydoras

(I would have more, but I don’t prefer to keep them anymore. These guys are a few years old and I got them when I was still inexperienced.)

Guppies / Livebearers

2 male Guppy

1 male Endler-guppy hybrid

1 male Endler’s livebearer

9–11 female guppies

~15 brand-new juveniles

🦐 Invertebrates

Shrimp

~40 Neocaridina shrimp of various colors and ancestry

3 Amano shrimp

Snails

~40–50 bladder snails

2 assassin snails (purchased today)

1 nerite snail (temporarily removed)

1 six-year-old mystery snail

Mystery Snail Notes

Honestly a mystery because it’s buried 99% of the time. If I see it I’ll remove it, but it’s 6x the size of the assassins and only shows up 1–2 times a year, so it should be okay.

🏡 Tank 2 — Betta + Cherry Barb Tank

🐟 Fish

1 male Betta fish

(Had him about 7 months now. He was doing fantastic, then all of a sudden he’s gotten swim bladder again, so I’m treating that :///)

6 Cherry barb

🐌 Snails

1 nerite snail

2–3 bladder snails

🏡 Tank 3 — Mini Pond Tote Setup

3 black totes stacked together to create a safe mini-pond

About 35–45 guppies
