For those who are severely iron depleted, did you try for a baby anyways?

29F. Been anemic for most of my life likely due to heavy periods. Most recent ferritin is 5. I am intolerant of taking oral iron (nausea, constipation, GI distress, etc) but my doctor won’t prescribe iron infusions due to them being “risky.” The only thing she’ll do is refer me to hematology.

We’ve been waiting for almost 4 years to start trying. Had to wait to finish school first but just graduated this month. I’m reading all this stuff on the internet about the risks of low iron and how it can impact baby, especially the neurological system.

Just feeling hopeless about it. I don’t know if we need to wait even longer now just to get my iron up before trying? Since this is a lifelong thing for me I’m worried it can’t be fixed quickly enough.
