I’m moving to Sweden in a few months for study, and I’ve run into a bit of a linguistic dilemma. My name is Ren.

I recently found out that ren means "reindeer" (and also "clean/pure") in Swedish. While I love wildlife, I’m a bit worried that introducing myself in a professional setting or at a bar is going to feel like I’m saying, "Hi, my name is Caribou." I’m considering using a "fuller" version of my name on my CV or when meeting people to avoid immediate confusion/jokes, but I’d still like to go by Ren as a nickname.

  1. How "weird" is the name Ren to a native speaker? Is it "cool-nature-name" weird, or "I'm-naming-my-kid-Toaster" weird?
  2. If I used a longer "anchor" name, what sounds most natural in Sweden? I’ve looked at names like Soren, Renato, or Lawrence, but I’d love to hear what wouldn't stand out too much in a Swedish office.

Would love to hear your thoughts or any "reindeer" puns I should prepare myself for?

Thanks!

Hey everyone!

I’ve become obsessed with the nickname Miz, but I’m struggling to find the "perfect" full name to pair it with. I’m looking for something that feels cohesive, but I’m totally open to both the super-obvious choices and the "stretching it a bit" creative ones. Does anyone have a "Miz" in their life, or can you think of any names (from any culture!) that would make this nickname work?

I’m all ears! Thanks in advance! :)
