First Big Boy Camera Purchase

Budget: $500 - $1500 CAD

Country: Canada

Condition: Preferably new

Type of Camera: Mirrorless

Intended use: Photography

What style: Various

What features do you absolutely need: Quick and accurate autofocus, great low light performance (flash would be great), raw file format, higher mp would be great to crop in to photos

Portability: More portability would be better. Would love to take it out to events, but wouldn't want to be lugging around something too chunky.

Cameras you're considering: Fujifilm X-T30 iii (don't know many others, thats why I'm here, but I think I like Fuji)

Cameras you already have: Nikon D5300

Notes: First real camera purchase

Hello. I need some help as I'm getting the itch to upgrade my camera, but I don't actually know much about whats available these days.

Probably about 15 years ago, my dad acquired a Nikon D5300 through his work, which he let me use when I was first getting into photography. Fast forward to now and its still the only camera I'm using. I just never had the money to start really investing into photography, and the Nikon took acceptable photos so I was okay with just hanging on to that. I still don't necessarily "have the money", hence the large budget range, but I think its time to get a meaningful upgrade to my hardware.

I like to take a wide range of photos. Down the line, I know I'd have to invest more into various lenses to suit my needs. But overall, I would just like to have a "pick it up and go" type of camera that I can take on a hike, or out to an event, or to take family photos/portraits, or even to do night time landscapes. Image detail is very important to me, so I think that means a larger sensor is what I'm looking for, but that comes with a higher price as well. Although I feel I can handle a camera very well, my knowledge on the hardware side of things is pretty limited. Again, I just never really saw myself buying a brand new camera, so I just made due with what I had and didn't worry about specs.

I think, based on the haphazard comparing of different brands and models, that the Fuji X-T30 iii should fit my needs well paired with the right lenses. Its hard to tell without some real opinions though. Am I trying to spend more than I need to for my use cases? Should I spend just a little bit more in order to get something I'll really be satisfied with for the years to come? There seems to be so much out there. As much as I do love photography, I don't see myself realistically being able to afford a new $1500-$2000 camera every year or two so I'd really like this purchase to last.

Any help is appreciated!
