I've had this weird anomaly for years. Occasionally and at random times, I get a severe irritation in/around my tonsils. Feels like a deep pinprick and it isn't in the same place, it could be anywhere on either side. The irritation is so bad my eyes start pouring water and I cough and gag. Breathing in further irritates it but breathing out doesn't. I can sip something to soothe it and suppress the gagging until it inevitably passes in 1-2 minutes.
I don't have acid reflux and have tried medications for that for 3 months and it still happens. This happens maybe once every few weeks. I've heard it could be allergy related but I'm on an antihistamine and I don't feel like an allergy could be that intense and then be gone that fast.
I never leave home without a drink because that seems to be the only thing that helps when these short attacks happen. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?
