I live in Tokyo and will have family visiting me in July for their first trip to Japan. I would have picked another time of year, but because of American school schedules, it was July or nothing.
Urban heat island effect aside, my family is from an area with similar weather to Tokyo so I think they won’t be too shocked by the heat and humidity, but the extra challenge I will be dealing with is that I have a baby who will be 7 months old when my family visits (so my first Japanese summer with a baby).
Right now I’m thinking indoor activities only (maybe some morning visits to outdoor locations) in Tokyo with trips to Hokkaido and/or Tohoku to get to experience nature and some cultural sites? I would really love to make their first trip here enjoyable and memorable, but obviously my priority is my baby’s comfort and health. Anyone with similar experience or suggestions?
