Need some help choosing my first EV.

My situation. I currently have a campervan as my only vehicle, and it’s been off the road a while. Hope to get it back running soon, and I’ve been able to borrow a car when needed, but I want something of a run around. The van gets about 30mpg, which at current diesel prices isn’t that appealing, especially for day to day use.

I currently have a round trip commute of 44 miles twice a week, and then will mostly use the car for driving around town - the gym, shops etc and some shorter day trips. A couple longer journeys 400 miles each way (may be able to sometimes charge off a wall plug). Based in Edinburgh so some consideration to winter driving is required (though I’ll most likely end up putting all seasons on). Will mostly charge at home (save for longer trips). I would want a useable range (ie between charges of around 210 miles.

In terms of size, I was driving a 2024 Sportage PHEV for a while, and would probably want something slightly smaller, but still practical. I care more about boot size than rear legroom, fold or nearly fold seats, and no boot lip. I quite liked the Kia overall (except the consumption if not charged) and probably got on with the driver aids the most out of any car I’ve driven. Doesn’t need to be an SUV, any hatchback with a practical opening and not too much of a slope (so like a proper hatchback before cars started getting confused) could fit the bill.

Budget would probably be around £15k used, or £250 depending on the car and terms on lease or PCP.

If used reliability is key. Doesn’t need to be fancy or have pointless tech, just half decent to drive (I liked how the Kia felt quite planted and had good grip). I don’t think I would like the aircon controls operated only through a touchscreen. Don’t mind the Kia system if it’s like the sportage.

What should I be looking at?
